In an exciting new development, Punjab has officially inaugurated its first-ever gynae training center in the province.

Health Minister of Punjab, Dr. Yasmin Rashid took part in the event, alongside World Health Organization (WHO) Country Head, Dr. Palitha Mahipala.

Punjab’s first-ever gynae training center

The training center was opened in the Gynecology Department of Services Hospital Lahore (SHL). Medical Superintendent (MS) SHL, Dr. Ehtishamul Haq, the Principal of the Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Prof Dr. Farooq Afzal, and many other SHL faculty members participated in the event.

Dr. Yasmin Rashid briefed that the training institute will provide doctors and midwives with training in child and mother hospitals in Punjab. She said that the establishment of such a training center is a historic moment.

”We are the signatories of reducing maternal and child mortality rates in sustainable development goals,” the Minister remarked. She further added that the government is taking steps to ensure the health of children and mothers in the province, and declared that child and mother hospitals are being constructed in Punjab.

Facilities for mothers

Dr. Rashid detailed that over 1,300 basic health units in Punjab are working while being equipped with midwives. Similarly, 480 dedicated ambulances for the health of mothers and children have been made available too. She said that the WHO has always worked to improve public health and also thanked Dr. Mahipala for his visit.

Dr. Palitha also spoke at the occasion, saying that the World Health Organization has always assisted Punjab in enhancing health care service for the people. He said that the new gynecology training center will play a significant role in training midwives and doctors.
