Real-life version of ‘Squid Game’ to be played in UAE tomorrow [VIDEO]
Inspired by the series, the United Arab Emirates has geared up to host its own real-life version of the Squid Game.
Ever since the Korean series Squid Game was released on Netflix, it has been trending at #1 on the video streaming platform. Viewers can’t get enough of the characters, storyline, and suspense that the drama has created.
For the people who still haven’t watched the Squid Game, the season is about hundreds of cash-strapped players who participate in a children’s game with deadly stakes for a tempting prize. The audience loves the emotional roller coaster ride the series takes them through as the participants play game after game to win.
Inspired by the series, the United Arab Emirates has geared up to host its own real-life version of the Squid Game.
UAE’s version of the Squid Game
The Korean Cultural Center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, is hosting its own version of Squid Game on the 12th of October, 2021. The event will be recognized as the “KCC Squid Game Event”. The games played will feature a reenactment of the popular Netflix series.
According to reports, approximately 300 individuals have applied to participate in the game. However, to their disappointment, only two groups of 15 participants will be shortlisted to compete in the event.
Similarities between the fictional and real-life versions of the Squid Game
The KCC Squid Game event contestants will dress up in the same costumes as the show’s actors, while the staff will wear the iconic circle, triangle, and square outfits. The event will also feature four of the six games from the K-Drama, omitting the eponymous squid game and the tug-of-war round. It will also add a game of ddakji to the roster, which the Salesman (Gong Yoo) played with Seong Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae) in episode one of the series.
Differences between the fictional and real-life versions of the Squid Game
There are two critical differences between the “KCC Squid Game Event” and the version from the show:
- No one will die
- There’s no prize money to be won
Moreover, all the dangerous elements of the game will also be eliminated to make the event safe for participants. The staff will be seen using sponge guns instead of real guns, and the game of glass stepping stones will be played on flat ground instead of hundreds of feet in the air.
Speaking about the event, the Korean Cultural Center officials said:
The games seem a bit brutal in the series to maximize the dramatic element. However, all the games in the series are popular games played by Korean children.
According to media reports, if the introductory version of the KCC event is successful, it may give rise to more real-life Squid Games held around the world, which might include the element of prize money too. However, for now, fans of the series are excited to see how the UAE’s version of the Squid Game unfolds.
