‘Pakistan can win if…’: Ricky Ponting picks T20 World Cup finalists

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has picked the finalists and the winner of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. He also talked about Pakistan’s chances of winning the mega tournament.

The Men in Green are always among the favourites, when it comes to the shortest format of the game. In the last T20 World Cup, they were well on course to become the champions for the second time before Australia knocked them out in the most heartbreaking fashion.

According to Ricky Ponting, Pakistan’s chances of winning the tournament heavily depends on skipper Babar Azam. If the right handed batter doesn’t have a great tournament, the 2009 T20 World Cup winners will have a hard time in Australia, said Ponting.

“I saw him up close and personal a couple of years ago out here in a Test series against Australia and I said it then, I thought the sky was the limit for this guy as far as Test match batting (was concerned) and, if anything, he’s probably got better and better in the last couple of years,” said Ponting on the ICC Review.

Regarding the finalists of the World Cup, the former Aussie captain feels that India and Australia will be the two playing in the final. He added that reigning champions will defeat the Men in Blue as they will have the home conditions to their advantage.
