Rihanna stirs controversy after supporting Indian farmers against Modi’s laws
Farmers from across the country have been protesting against the three laws passed in September last year.
The American pop star, Rihanna, has created a flutter in India by wading into the months-long farmer protests against Modi’s agricultural reforms.
Turning to Twitter, the singer condemned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for passing new farm laws that have caused an outrage in the country.

Human Rights Watch responded to Rihanna’s tweet and said that the BJP government is “presiding over a dangerous regression in free speech rights to pursue its Hindu nationalist agenda.”

Following this, the environmental activist Greta Thunberg also shared the same article and wrote, “We stand in solidarity with India’s farmers.”

Farmers from across the country have blocked roads leading into the Indian capital of New Delhi for the past two months. They have been protesting against the three laws passed in September last year.
The new reforms would bring India’s agricultural sector under corporate control, impacting the farmers’ livelihood.
