This isn’t the only achievement of Samina as back in 2013, she became the first-ever Pakistani woman to summit Mount Everest.
A challenging climb
K2 is considered to be the second-highest summit in the entire world, second to Mount Everest. The summit is a staggering 8,611 meters above sea level and is the most hazardous and challenging climb.
Prior to this, an Afghan climber lost his life at Camp 4 on K2 during his attempt to reach the summit of the mountain. On the other hand, a French mountaineer is awaiting rescue at K2 base camp after she experienced high-altitude sickness.
Ali Akbar Sakhi, the first climber from Afghanistan to attempt the climb, passed away due to a heart attack. He was also part of the Pakistani K2 expedition team. The French trekker is stuck at the base camp near Concordia and has asked the government for a rescue helicopter.
Secretary of Alpine Club of Pakistan, Karrar Haidri told news sources that an army helicopter will fly to Concordia and airlift the trekker. The tour organizer, Wajahat said that Sarah started experiencing breathing problems at Concordia and soon starting throwing up. Her condition has deteriorated, which is why it is essential to rescue her.
