The Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Hammad Azhar, met recently with Samsung Pakistan\\’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD). After the meeting, the Federal Minister took to Twitter to reveal that Samsung is interested in setting up an assembly unit in Pakistan.

Hammad Azhar said:

Smartphone production in Pakistan is increasing exponentially, thanks to the implementation of new, more robust policies.

What are these new policies?

In May, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) approved the first-ever mobile device manufacturing policy in Pakistan. Recently, the PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) implemented Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS), and Mobile Policy.

Following this development, the Ministry of Industries and Production was directed to enhance the mobile policy\\’s various features and incentives. The purpose of this was to promote the localization of Research & Development (R&D), which can help lead to the export of mobile phones.

Due to these changes, Samsung officials are actively considering setting up a smartphone assembly unit in Pakistan.
