[VIDEO] ‘Churails’ star Sarwat Gilani reveals who her inspiration was for the role of Sara
She said that Pakistani dramas often don't portray women like that and end up 'sugarcoating' them.
In a recent interview with an Indian outlet, Churails star Sarwat Gilani has revealed that she took inspiration from Meryl Streep’s character Miranda Priestly in the ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ for the role of Sara.
Talking about her character
During the interview, she shared that in films and TV, you have to ’emote’ a lot for the audience to feel ‘pain’ or ‘happiness’, but for the web, it had to be altered to zero.
“I had to unlearn and start new. In The Devil Wears Prada, Streep doesn’t say much but her aura is so powerful. I even got inspired by Angelina’s film Mr. and Mrs. Smith, I wanted to take that subtleness”, the actress explained.
Talking about her show Churails
While talking about the unorthodox and refreshing Churails, Gilani said that the director Asim Abbasi wanted to break the imposed stereotype that a woman who steps out of her home is ‘immoral’ while the one who takes care of the house and stays inside is good.
She said that Pakistani dramas often don’t portray women like that and end up ‘sugarcoating’ them.
“In Churails, we didn’t need a man to rescue a woman, we wanted to show that a woman can stand up for herself and uplift other women going through problems”, she said.
