In a progressive development, Saudi woman all set to become the president of an all-male football club

She is hopeful that the sports and athletics community will acknowledge her candidacy.

Awatef Al-Sahoo is set to become the first Saudi female to compete for the presidency of Al-Qalaa FC, an all-male Saudi football club. She is also being celebrated as a female hero, who is paving a new way for Saudi women by encouraging their participation in the sports sphere.

She submitted her candidacy papers for the position to the club’s board of directors last week. Al-Sahoo intends to emphasize the significance of the establishment of a women sports council to encourage female participation.

She is hopeful that the sports and athletics community will acknowledge her candidacy.

Al-Sahoo says that her nomination was motivated by her belief that women play a significant role in society, particularly female athletes, as they are responsible for creating a balance while setting an example for others.

Entring the sports sphere:

Awatef’s marriage to known Saudi athlete Ahmed Al-Sahoo served as a motivator for her entry into sports. Her husband and family have supported her throughout the journey as she now eyes the presidency of Al Qalaa FC.

‘’My home turned into a management center for the club and its affairs, with Al-Qalaa FC becoming a second home that is valued and supported with all their effort,” Al-Sahoo said while speaking to the Arab News.

Awatef has gained massive support from people as her decision is being viewed as not only brave but also extremely significant for a more integrated and gender-balanced society.

“My success in the next elections is the success of all ambitious Saudi women who would like to show the world who they are, what they can give and who have fought to achieve these historical moments that will be positively registered in the march of Saudi women who have entered all domains courageously,” Al-Sahoo believes.

Ahmed Al-Sahoo, Awatef’s husband and the former president of Al-Qalaa FC, says that the nomination was a long-awaited wish of her wife. He further states that it’s essential to encourage and support women like her.
