Shabbir Marchant

Shabbir Marchant was an 18-year-old boy who had a dream to succeed when he first came to the UAE in 1976.

Shabbir was born in December 1958 in Karachi. While talking to Gulf News, Merchant said that he came from a very humble background. His siblings and he had watched their father work hard for a living and so they learned to do that as well.

“My father was strict about money, he was a disciplined man and he taught us the value of it. His values are ingrained in me,” Merchant.

Before Success:

His older brother, in 1976, called him to Dubai. Under his support and guidance, Merchant helped his brother in his signage company.

”When I first came here in Dubai, there were no skyscrapers, luxury cars, and signage boards in the city. In 1989, Merchant started Champion Neon with a little office space of 800 square feet in Deira.”

While remembering old days, 61-year-old millionaire recalled, “There were so many obstacles, I never imagined I would come this far.”

Never rely on bank loans:

This is quite incredible that Shabbir Merchant has never, to date, took bank loans or financial aids to boost his business.

“I have never borrowed. I don’t believe in delaying anyone’s payments,” Shabbir Marchant.

The Champion Neon company completes its 30 years in business this year. It has branches all over the UAE. The company facilitates clients from all industries; including automotive, retail, food & beverage, hospitality, construction, corporates, banks, etc.

With state-of-the-art infrastructure and ISO-certified quality standards, Champion Neon has become one of the leading signage & branding companies across the region.

Being actively involved in various cultural entities such as Pakistan Business Council (Founding Member), Pakistan Association in Dubai (Founding Member), Pakistan Professional Wing (Member) & World Memon Organisation (Trustee) has allowed me to give back to the community in multiple ways said, Shabbir Merchant.
