Lahore Qalandars’ wait for their first Pakistan Super League (PSL) title finally came to an end last night. Shaheen Shah Afridi led his team to their maiden HBL PSL trophy in front of a jam-packed Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Lahore Qalandars beat the defending champions and the most favourite team of the tournament, Multan Sultans, by 42 runs. Shaheen Afridi became the youngest captain ever to lead his franchise to the title in a major T20 league across the globe.

Before him, Australia’s Steve Smith held the record when he won the Big Bash League (BBL) at the age of 22. He also became the youngest PSL winning captain, beating Mohammad Rizwan, who won the title at the age of 28.

PM Imran Khan’s prediction about Shaheen Afridi:

Before the start of the HBL PSL 7, the Lahore Qalandars management had met PM Imran Khan along with Shaheen Shah Afridi, upcoming talent Mohammad Zahid, and coach Aqib Javed. They met the PM just days after naming Afridi as their new captain.

Although, the decision to appoint Shaheen the captain was questioned by many but PM Imran Khan lauded the Qalandars for taking this bold step. During his meeting with the Qalandars’ management and players, Khan had predicted that the youngster may lead his team to their first ever PSL trophy.

“Youth always change results, and the Lahore Qalandars could win the PSL trophy this time [due to this decision],” the prime minister had said.
