The Pakistan Super League has become a platform for many ambitious and young cricketers to fast-track their cricket journey.
Hassan Ali, Shadab Khan, and Haris Rauf are just some players who have made it to the national team after performing in the PSL.
This year, the player who caught everyone’s attention is the 22-year old fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani from Larkana.
Multan Sultans picked Dahani as an emerging player in the PSL6 draft. He debuted for the Sultans during a game against Peshawar Zalmi.
Who is Shahnawaz Dahani?
Shahnawaz hails from a small village called Khuhawar Khan Dahani.
In an interview with Geo Sports, Dahani said, “I was very passionate about bowling fast and was known in my village for it. Many people there had named me 3G bowler – to relate the speed with the speed of the internet.”
The young cricketer said that he was invited to the Under 19 trials after some visitors in his village saw him bowling with a tape ball.
Recalling the moment, Dahani said he did not have any proper gear or shoes when he was invited for the trials, so he borrowed them from his friend and showed up to the trials. He was then selected to play inter-district Under 19 matches.
Dahani, who has a B.Com Degree, told a source that his father wanted him to focus on his studies, but his passion for cricket pushed him to pursue his dream.
He added, “My father is not alive, but I am sure he would have been very proud today to see me become the face of my village.”
After playing grade 2 cricket, the 22-year-old made his first-class debut last season, where he got 27 wickets in 8 games. His performance during the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy received appreciation from many people.
Recalling his passion for cricket, the fast bowler shared that he never missed any match on TV.
“There was no proper cable in our village, so I used to make makeshift arrangements with friends to watch cricket games. I had memorized stats and action of all the bowlers—Shane Bond and Jofra Archer are my role models.”

He needs a couple of years of first-class cricket as his lines and lengths are not good enough for international cricket. Despite that, I like his bowling especially because he can move the ball both ways.
If he works hard, he can be a new Mohammad Asif with extra pace.
Keep it up, young man. You will be first Sindhi-speaking test cricketer of Pakistan, inshallah.
