Cricket legends Shane Warne and Michael Vaughan have hoped that the upcoming Australia tour of Pakistan will go ahead. While talking on Fox Cricket, the two cricket greats explained why Australia must tour Pakistan.
Warne termed the Australia tour to Pakistan ‘extremely important.’ “You need Australians, New Zealands, India and Englands to go to Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and that sort of places,” the former leg spinner said.
He added that its important for teams to go to Pakistan as it generates great excitement as well as money from the revenue of TV rights. Furthermore, the 52 years old also talked about how many Pakistani cricketers haven’t played a test match on their home soil.
“They played 40,50 Tests and never played one at home, could you imagine what it feels to that person, their family, the crowd. Let’s keep our fingers crossed, security and everything is okay and we see some great cricket.”
On the other hand, Michael Vaughan also wants the Aussies to tour Pakistan as he expressed his disappointment over the cancellation of England tour to Pakistan.
“If security ticks off, then Australia & other nations have to go to Pakistan. It’s important for the world game. Pakistan adores cricket, not just T20s but Tests also. Australia need to do everything in their powers to make sure the players go there,” Vaughan said.
He added that England pulling out of Pakistan tour just a few days before the tour isn’t a good look for the game. Furthermore, he also stated that the Big 3 – India, Australia, England – should be looking after other cricket nations as they have all the money.
“So in any way, shape or form that Australia can get on the plane and go to Pakistan if security is given the green light and the tick, they have to go there and it will be great for the game,” Vaughan concluded.
Shane Warne concluded by saying that there’s a “responsibility to the world game for the ICC, Australia, India and England to get to as many countries as you possibly can. There’s an ICC World Test Championship now too, so you have that responsibility, especially India.”
