Shaukat Tarin reminds Pakistanis that their private ‘WhatsApp’ calls are being tapped

''We can take up this matter legally,'' Tarin said while speaking on a political talk show.

After being mired in controversy, former Finance Minister Shaukat has said that he’s disappointed that a private WhatsApp call was being recorded.

”We can take up this matter legally,” Tarin said while speaking on a political talk show. He remarked that he wants to tell Pakistanis that their private calls are being tapped. Shaukat was also asked if it’s possible that the person he was conversing with leaked the chat, as WhatsApp calls cannot be recorded.

”The conversation cannot be leaked from either Leghari, Taimur, or me,” he said, further adding that there is an institution behind this.

PTI’s Shaukat Tarin’s leaked WhatsApp call

Previously, audio was leaked on the internet in which Shaukat Tarin asked Punjab Finance Minister Mohsin Leghari and KP Finance Minister Taimur Jhagra to write letters to hijack the IMF deal.

In the audio, Tarin asked Leghari to tell IMF that the commitment couldn’t be honored due to ‘losses caused by floods.’ He also told Leghari to draft a letter and send it to him ‘for review,’ so it could be sent to the federal government and then to the IMF representative in Pakistan.
