‘Silencing women will be resisted’, PPP leadership announces to support Aurat March

Taking to Twitter, Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari extended her full support to the march, saying that 'voices should be heard and rights should be protected'.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) top leadership has extended its full support to the Aurat March, saying that the party stands with all purely human-centric movements. Aurat March is a public rally which is organized in different cities of Pakistan every year on the 8th of March to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Taking to Twitter, Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari extended her full support to the march, saying that ‘voices should be heard and rights should be protected’.

“I wholeheartedly support #AuratMarch2020. Voices should be heard, issues should be discussed, and rights should be protected. Any act of suppression will only make our voices louder and stronger. And for anyone who thinks otherwise”, she wrote.

PPP Secretary-General and former senator, Farhatullah Babar, also extended his support to the march, saying that every pro-human rights movement is the fundamental right of the people.

Babar said that “constitution guaranteed freedom of association and freedom of assembly to everyone that could not be curtailed by anyone by hurling threats”.

PPP leader Sherry Rehman also picked her side quite bluntly, saying that PPP stands with women empowerment and all attempts at silencing women will be ‘resisted’.

PPP will support all women’s rights marches and stand in solidarity with Aurat March as well as other activists seeking rights. All attempts at silencing women will be resisted. Democratic countries handle all such equality and empowerment public conversations with tolerance”, she wrote on Twitter.
