The Sindh Police has launched a crackdown against those with fake government number plates.
Under this new development, law enforcement will monitor different roads in Karachi, and punish those with fake registration plates, or those using blue and green government license plates.
Sindh Police launches operation
Upon orders of the Inspector-General (IG), Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, the Police have started a campaign against those with green and blue number plates. Although the operation was scheduled to be launched on 25 July, the monsoon rains have caused it to be postponed.
It is illegal and punishable by the law to use a green or blue number plate on a private car. Hence, all the district police officers have been ordered to conduct a thorough and strict operation against fake license plates.
The Traffic Police have started conducting spot checks on Muhammad Ali Jinnah Road in Karachi after the above-mentioned orders from the IG. According to a news source, a speeding vehicle, which was using a phony green number plate, tried to run over a traffic police officer when it was stopped for inspection.
