Social media has a mixed reaction to Iqrar ul Hassan’s apology

He said that he is sorry for standing with Ayesha Akram.

Renowned anchorperson, Iqrar ul Hassan, has issued a public apology after a leaked audio recording of Ayesha Akram surfaced. Following the Minar-e-Pakistan incident, the Sar-e-Aam host along with Yasir Shami were the first ones to interview the victim.

Later, some pictures of Ayesha Akram’s friend, Rambo, wearing a Sar-e-Aam’s team shirt had also gone viral. A large number of social media users had raised questions over Iqrar ul Hassan’s role in the whole controversy. They were of the opinion that the anchorperson is part of the Tiktokers’ attempt to “gain publicity and defame Pakistan.”

Leaked audio clip of Ayesha Akram and Rambo

Few days back, an audio recording of Ayesha Akram and Rambo surfaced on the internet. In the leaked audio clip, the two can be heard discussing how much money should they demand from the suspects arrested in the case.

Rambo’s arrest in the case

On October 11th, the Lahore police arrested Rambo upon the complain of Ayesha Akram. The TikToker accused him of blackmailing her through compromising videos of her. She also blamed Rambo for the whole incident at Minar-e-Pakistan.

Iqrar ul Hassan’s apology

Now, in a video posted on his Instagram, Iqrar ul Hassan has issued a public apology. He said that he is sorry for standing with Ayesha Akram.

Addressing Ayesha Akram, he said: “If you needed money, you should have asked me.”  He also confirmed that the audio clip circulating on social media is genuine.
