Some 1,304 cases of child abuse reported in just last six months

The shocking figures of the child abuse unveiled by Sahil and the most recent cases of child abuse in Kasur have once again diverted the attention of most, if not all, towards the social ill prevailing in the society. The detailed insight of the report revealed that more than 600 cases of child abuse have been reported from Punjab, the most populated province of the country.
Some 458 cases have been reported across Sindh, 32 in Balochistan, and the number of cases reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amounts to 51. The abuse of underage children is shocking because they are most vulnerable and are in no way capable to protect themselves.
Reports of sexual abuse pertaining to the underage children amount to 90 in the capital territory alone. Their number is 18 in AJK and 3 in Gilgit-Baltistan. NGO report further revealed that as many as 50 cases have been reported from the capital of Punjab.
The calamity falls equally well when it comes to the students of seminaries. 12 minor girls and boys suffered sexual abuse in madrassahs according to the report. The number of reported cases for the boys and girls further disclosed that girls are more vulnerable to the evil of child abuse.
The Sahil report read that 729 girls and 575 boys suffered sexual abuse of some kind between January to June 2019.
The entire number of cases of child abuse as concluded by the report amounts to 1,304. According to the senior regional coordinator of Sahil Ansar Sajjad Bhatti, reported by Dawn, there were other incidents in which three boys and as many as girls were murdered after the gang rape, sodomy, and rape.
186 children were found missing from their homes while there were 40 cases of early child marriage along with a case of Vani, said the regional coordinator. The most common perpetrator of the child sex abuse was an acquaintance with the victim and the victim’s family. Out of all 1,304 reported cases, only 142 were those in which strangers were involved in abusing the child.
