Spain launches visa for freelancers – Here are the requirements

Spain is a famous country for expats. It is known for its landscape and in addition to that, it is also popular for its affordability. Recently, Spain has launched a digital nomad visa to invite freelancers and remote workers to the country.

The visa came into effect earlier this year in January after being approved by the Startup Law. The law basically focuses on creating an ideal environment for talent, entrepreneurship along with investment.

Visa Duration:

The digital nomad visa would be applicable for a period of 12 months or during the employment period, considering the one that is shorter. It can, however, be renewed for up to 5 years. After this duration, the applicants can then apply for residency.

Procedure for application

Applicants who want to apply for the visa can do so through the consulate or an embassy. Moreover, they can also enter spain on a visit visa and then apply for the digital nomad visa within the first 3 months. The visa process can take up a period of 15-45 days. The fee for application is Rs.23,669.

According to a new report from the digital payments platform Payoneer,  America’s gig economy saw the most significant growth in the last year, with freelancer earnings up 78% annually. The study gathers data from more than 300,000 freelances within Payoneer’s network.

The world’s biggest market was followed by the U.K. and Brazil, which witnessed a jump in earnings over the past year, up 59% and 48%, respectively.

However, Asia recorded the highest regional growth, with incomes up to 138% across four countries. Pakistan observed the biggest increase of 47% in freelancer revenues in 2019. It was followed in the top 10 by the Philippines, India, and Bangladesh.
