Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved a model of actions against those named in the Sugar Forensic Commission (SFC) report, says the Special Assistant to the PM on Accountability ,Shahzad Akbar.
“The Prime Minister had approved the recommendations and action points of sugar inquiry commission report”, the Special Assistant said on Sunday.
Akbar said the suggested recommendations include punishment and recoveries, the overhaul of the administrative framework, and rationalization of sugar prices based on the original cost of the production.
Shahzad Akbar added it had been decided to take punitive actions against the sugar mill owners who broke the law. He said no matter how powerful a person is, or which political party they belong to, “no exceptions can be made” for anyone.
“Transparency is the topmost priority when it comes to accountability. Before we take action over whatever matter is being pursued, it must be put before the people. That is why the report was made public,” said the premier’s aide.
Akbar said that the PM had approved three sets of actions. These actions consist of the punishments to be given, as well as the recovery mechanism to be enacted.
Within the broad category, seven significant actions were recommended.
