Out of the three dozen cases of theft and robbery reported on 4th January 2020 in various parts of Lahore, the city police managed to solve the robbery case only at the residence of Prime Minister’s nephew, and that too within 48 hours.

Three suspects were arrested, two of which were brothers, Mahmood and Kazim, and residents of Marl village in Ferozewala. The third suspect, named Fahad, was a friend and lived in Mian Mir Colony.
The father of Mahmood and Kazim works as a driver in Zaman Park, the police also took him in custody for questioning. The brothers were arrested and then, so was their accomplice from Cantonment.

On the same day, 5 house robberies, 15 street crimes, and motorcycle and car snatching cases were reported. The police were only able to trace the case of PM’s nephew, Shershah Khan, showing no progress in any of the other reported cases.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Zulfiqar Hameed told the media about the case in a press conference on Monday. According to the FIR lodged on the complaint of Shershah Khan, three unidentified armed men entered his house by scaling the boundary walls, when his wife and daughter were alone in the house.

They held his wife hostage, looted an expensive mobile phone, a pistol worth Rs.1.1 million, eight gold bangles and cash, and then fled from the scene.

Mr. Khan stated that they also forced his wife to issue a cheque of Rs.3 million. Another police official said that there were a number of teams deployed on roads around the city and plainclothes personnel at some branches of the bank the cheque belonged to. A joint team of CIA and investigation wing worked closely to solve the case.

The police also alerted the management of the bank about the possibility of encashment of the cheque from any branch of theirs.

“We traced the location and hideouts of the criminals… on the basis of secret information’’, Cantt Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Mian Ijaz Rasheed said.

Mahmood, out of the three suspects, was a hardened criminal and was involved in 21 similar crime incidents. His brother Kazim was involved in six, while this was Fahad’s second crime. The SP said that all the three suspects were oblivious about the family they were robbing.
