Pakistan’s ace weightlifter Talha Talib might be in serious trouble as he is reportedly under ‘serious’ investigation for using performance-enhancing drugs. Its indeed a huge blow for Pakistan as well as the weightlifter himself just ahead of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, which will begin on July 28.

Last month, it was reported that surprise raids were conducted on the training facilities of Pakistani weightlifters in two different cities by the International Testing Agency (ITA) in coordination with International Weightlifting Federation (ITF). Talha Talib including other weightlifters were tested for illegal drugs.

According to a report by The News, the ITA has initiated investigation against Talha after the results of his tests turned out to be suspicious.

“Talha requires further investigation as the results conducted on his blood samples were not at all clear. The ITA is in process of further investigating the matter before getting in a position to clarify the reported use of performance enhancing drugs.”

According to The News, two Pakistani weightlifters have recently tested positive but the publication hasn’t revealed names as Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF) has denied the report. An official confirmed that ITA conducted as many as seven tests and more will be done in the next few days.

Talha Talib is yet comment on the report of him being under investigation for using banned substances. Last year, he made history as he won the country’s first ever medal at the World Weightlifting Championship.
