‘I thought he would kill me’, Tamim Iqbal shares why he was scared of Shoaib Akhtar
He still gets tongue-tied looking back at what went down when he came face to face with the world's fastest bowler.
During a recent Facebook Live session, Bangladesh’s current One Day International (ODI) captain, Tamim Iqbal, confessed that facing Pakistan’s fast pacer Shoaib Akhtar was his greatest nightmare.
The first time Bangladesh veteran faced Akhtar was during the quadrangular series in Kenya. After that, both came face to face during the 2010 Asia Cup.
‘That was the only time I felt fear’, said the opener.
“I always say this. I have played a lot of fast bowlers. I have also faced many balls around 150 km/hour. But I got scared only once. When I first played Shoaib Akhtar. That day I thought he would kill me. His bowling was so terrible for me,” Iqbal said.
Shoaib Akhtar shook the cricketing world with his pace. The Pakistani legendary bowler featured in 163 ODIs and 46 Tests for team green with an astonishing record of 247 and 178 wickets up his sleeve. He also outperformed others in T20I by taking 19 wickets in just 15 matches.
