Tenders worth millions for renovation amid austerity claims cause outcry

After President's episode, tender for Speaker Asad Qaiser and Chairman Senate cause social media outcry.

The entire day yesterday, President Alvi’s tender remained a trending hot topic across media outlets and social media platforms. The media outcry and criticism for the lavish amount amid austerity attracted President Arif Alvi’s attention.

He ordered immediate withdrawal of the said tender notice and initiation of inquiry. According to a statement that was issued yesterday, President House spokeperson said President Dr Arif Alvi had taken serious notice on the publication of the tender notice..

“The president has ordered immediate withdrawal of the said tender notice and initiation of inquiry. The tender notice has been released without obtaining approval from the competent authority,” the spokesperson added.

CDA deputy director (civil) at Aiwan-i-Sadr Mohammad Farooq Azam floated the tender by advertisements in newspapers, and also on the websites of the CDA and the Pakistan Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA).

Following this episode, another notice concerning Speaker Asad Qaiser and Chairman Senate has garnered attention on social media. The notification was shared by Ali Moeen Nawazish on his social media platforms. Sharing it, he criticized the lavish spending on furniture and carpets amid Prime Minister Imran Khan’s strict austerity drive.

”Paish e Khidmat hai aik aur tender. 1.85 million for furniture for our Austerity Loving Speaker’s House. A carpet worth 215,000 for a carpet, one carpet, for our even more loving Deputy Chairman Senate sb! The rest you can read yourself.” – he commented. 

While the comments are yet to seen on this subject, spokesperson for President Arif Alvi previously commented that  the tender notice had been released without obtaining approval from the competent authority.
