Three Months, Two Big Mistakes – State Television Needs Help

It is said that committing mistakes is good as long as you are learning from them, but Pakistan Television (PTV) clearly isn’t.  The state-run television has issued an apology for running ‘Beijing’ as ‘Begging’ during the broadcast of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s speech in China.

Khan, on his official trip, was addressing a ceremony at the central party school in Beijing which was being shown by the national broadcaster. During the speech, PTV displayed Begging instead of Beijing in an ironic ‘mistake’ – as they call it.

It was displayed for 20 seconds before the typo was corrected. The negligence became a centre of criticism by the people on social media, when #begging became top trending on the micro-blogging site, Twitter. Later on, the state television apologized for the mistake, called it ‘regrettable’ and assured strict action to be taken. Here is what PTV in their apology statement said that:

“Today, during a live address of the Prime Minister during his ongoing visit to China, a typographical error took place, which remained on screen for 20 seconds and later removed. This incident is regrettable. Strict action has been initiated under rules against concerned officials”.

This is not the first time PTV made such an embarrassing, big blunder ever since PTI formed the government. Previously, they also ran the wrong IBAN number for dam fund collection when Imran Khan was urging the nation to contribute to the cause in an appeal. Many people took to social media pointed it out, sharing screenshots of what happened when they tried transferring at the displayed account number.

Their recent mistake is even more embarrassing and has drawn a lot of social media criticism. Here is what the people have to say about it:
