Three police inspectors sacked for harassing a couple, demanding extortion money from a couple

After the video of four cops harassing a couple at Karachi’s sea view went viral, taking prompt action, the responsible individuals have been dismissed. The notification read that inspector Qurban Ali, Zahid Ali and Ahmed Khan have been sacked for misbehaving with a couple at a public place and manhandling them. They demanded the extortion money from them.  Officials earlier said that ASI Zulfiqar, inspectors Ahmed Khan and Qurban had been arrested however the other culprit, Zahid, had fled.

In the video that went viral on social media, four cops – three among them dressed in plain clothes were seen harassing the couple and asking for money. The Karachi Police Chief had earlier ordered asking couples for proof of marriage. The man can be seen in the video yelling that they both are husband and wife but to no help. The cops continued to abuse them.

“Some policemen harassed the couple at Sea View and tried to ask them for extortion money.” – said SSP South Pir Muhammad Shah, speaking to the media.

“ASI Zulfiqar was earlier deployed at Boat Basin Police Station and went to Sea View with inspectors Ahmed Khan, Qurban and Zahid,” the SSP South added. “ASI Zulfiqar, Ahmed Khan and Qurban have been arrested,” – he further shared the details.

“Qurban was not involved in the incident but was part of the gang. Inspector Zahid has fled and we are searching for him. We will try that the complainants’ lodge an FIR so strict action can be taken.” – Pir Muhammad Shah said.

Earlier, Additional Inspector General (IG) of Police Dr Amir Sheikh took notice of the incident and said that the cops will be arrested and immediately removed. Police gave out strict orders in this regard earlier, saying action will be taken against anyone who harasses young couples and asks them for marriage certificates.
