Tiktok Turned Down Pakistan’s Only Request For User Information in 2019

With over half-billion downloads, video-sharing social networking site—TikTok—has emerged as one of the top social media applications of recent years. The Chinese-owned TikTok recently published its first ever transparency report.

As per the report, Pakistan only filed a single request for user information in the previous year that was turned down by TikTok. India and the US has topped the list for the requests filed by countries seeking users information.

Both India and the US filed 79 and 107 requests, respectively, for user data in 2019. As many as 298 request for user data were received by TikTok from 28 countries between January 1, 2019 to June 30, 2019.

Furthermore, 3,345 complaints for copyrights violation were filed and 85 per cent of the requests were accepted.

TikTok has been the most talked about thing in print and electronic media of Pakistan because of the recent scandals involving the ruling party’s ministers. After Fayaz ul Hassan Chohan, TikTok girls, Hareem Shah and Sundal Khattak, released a video of minister for Railway, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed.

According to the statistics, TikTok was the most downloaded social media app in Pakistan followed by Facebook. TikTok was downloaded over 19 million times during the previous year.
