The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has indicated that there might be “retaliation” if India did not release the US order for the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine used to fight the COVID-19.

India had banned all exports of the anti-malarial drug after the coronavirus pandemic swept through the world.

According to a source, Trump said, “I spoke to Prime Minister Modi on Sunday morning, and I said we appreciate it that you are allowing our supply of hydroxychloroquine drug to come out. If he does not permit it to come out, that would be okay, but of course, there may be retaliation, why would not there be?”

Recently, in a telephonic conversation, Trump had asked Modi to release the US order for the drug.

Trump further said, “India makes a lot of hydroxychloroquine drugs. They need a lot too for their billion-plus population. The anti-malaria drug will be released through the Strategic National Stockpile for the treatment.”

According to reports, India is currently ‘considering’ the request made by President Trump.

Hydroxychloroquine is similar to chloroquine, the most effective and oldest drug used against malaria.
