What is the truth behind the reports claiming Pakistani forces are fighting alongside Azerbaijan against Armenia?

Pakistan has denied reports claiming that Pakistan Army is fighting along with Azerbaijani forces against Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhary said that the reports suggesting such news were ‘baseless’ and ‘speculative’.

“Pakistan is deeply concerned over the deteriorating security situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region”, he said.

The spokesperson said that intensive shelling by Armenian forces on the civilians of Azerbaijan is disgraceful and unfortunate. He added that this could compromise the security of the entire region, and Armenia must stop its military action.

Chaudhary added that Pakistan is supporting Azerbaijan on the conflict, however, the position was in line with the ‘several unanimously adopted UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions’.

Tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia are on a rise, despite the world’s calls for a ceasefire. The two countries have been involved in a conflict for decades over the region, but this time the fight has been really heavy. Almost 200 people, including 30 civilians, amid fears of a multi-front war that could also involve powers like Turkey and Russia.
