Turkey to build four naval warships for Pakistan

The Ankara based news agency reported that Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended a dual ceremony commissioning a new naval ship. The new ship which is to be constructed will be sold to Pakistan’s navy. While addressing at the ceremony Erdogan expressed hopes that Kinaliad, an Ada-class corvette, will benefit both the Turkish nation and Pakistan.
Earlier, in July last year both the countries signed a contract for the acquisition of four MILGEM-class ships to Pakistan. Turkey and Pakistan enjoy bilateral diplomatic, trade relations and both the nations agree to the UN proposed solution for the Kashmir. The bilateral trade, although, is not so high and suffered a further dropdown for quite some time.
President Erdogan said on the occasion: “Our Navy, rich with the glorious victories, is carrying this legacy into the future by further strengthening it.” He also said that it’s top-class equipment, discipline, qualified personnel and all the accomplishments it undertakes make Turkey proud.
Erdogan further said whilst addressing the ceremony that Turkey is one of the ten countries worldwide able to build, design, and maintain warships using its own national capabilities, adding that both the countries including Pakistan and Turkey had great potential for cooperation in the field of defense production.
According to the report of Turkish media, Pakistan Navy Commander Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbassi and President Erdogan cut the first metal plate of the first of the four MILGEM Ada class corvette during the ceremony.
Commenting on the issue of Kashmir Turkish President opined that the world must know about the sufferings of Kashmir calling the Kashmir an open-air prison where some 8 million people are braving the Indian atrocities.
