After long insensitive silence from the entire world on China’s inhumane treatment towards their Uighur Muslims, Turkey has called on them to close their concentration or ‘re-education’ camps where the religious minority is subjected to inhumane treatment.
Hami Aksoy, Foreign ministry spokesman, said that China’s behavior is ‘a great cause of shame for humanity’. The country has apparently detained more than a million Muslims there. Uighur Muslims, who also are ethnically linked to Turkey, has been subjected to treatment that defies human rights dynamics.
Aksoy said the Turkic Muslim population has faced “systematic assimilation” in China’s west. He added that Turkey has been and will be sharing resistance on their behalf at all levels, urging the authorities to close the detention facilities.
Beijing intensified its clamp down on the religious minority ever since 2009’s bloody riots. Many Uighur Muslims have fled the country, some of them finding their refuge in Turkey.
Turkey’s foreign minister Mr Aksoy also mentioned his deep concerns over Uighur musician and poet Abdurehim Heyit’s death in the prison, who had been detained for one of his songs for over eight years.
“We expect this legitimate response to be taken into account by the Chinese authorities. We respectfully commemorate Abdurehim Heyit and all our kinsmen who lost their lives defending their Turkish and Muslim identity.” – he added.
China has very silently but systematically worked to handicap its Muslim Uighur minority, that is an overwhelming minority in China’s Xinjiang province.
By secretly putting them into ‘’re-education camps’’ – where Muslims are forced to eat pork and consume alcohol in an attempt to treat Islam as a mental illness to brainwashing Muslim children in school, stripping an entire generation off their Muslim identity – China has had the history of worst treatment towards their religious minority.
Then, China announced to formally launch an Anti-Halal campaign to curb ‘extremism’. The Communist Party leaders of Urumqi have launched this campaign to stop Islam from penetrating secular lives. Urumqi led cadres have sworn an oath to ‘’fight a decisive battle against ’pan-halalization’ ‘’. Previously, Muslims had products including foods and toothpaste that were produced in accordance with Islam law.
China has faced heavy criticism from Human Rights groups and foreign governments for this discrimination and target against the Uighur Muslims but Beijing has denied the allegations. The country claims that it is not discrimination or violation of rights but they are only cracking down on extremism due to the threat of splitism in the region.
Official Global Times said that ‘’the demand that thinks the halal which cannot really be halal’’ was fuelling sentiments of hostility towards religion, allowing Islam to penetrate secular lives.
Theoretically, Chinese citizens are free but are being subjected to strict surveillance as the government makes efforts to bring religious worship under strict state control.
Communist party back in August last year issued a set of regulation setting strict measures and guidelines for its members’ behaviour, threatening for punishments and expulsion for those who clung to their religious beliefs.
