Two Pakistani universities have been named among Asia’s Top 100 Varsities according to Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Ranking for the year 2019.
The two universities named among the top list are NUST Islamabad (National University of Science and Technology) and LUMS Lahore (Lahore University of Management Sciences) secured 87 and 95 positions respectively.
However, in a major breakthrough and showing immense improvement, the top 500 ranking included 23 Pakistani universities. The factors and parameters used to gauge the performance and determine the ranking were employers and academic reputation, number of PhDs, number of published research papers etc. The first and second positions on the list were grabbed by Singapore and Hong Kong.
QS is a British company that specializes in education and studying abroad and releases educational universities’ ranking every year. In the year 2017, SDBS (Suleman Dawood School of Business) at LUMS were ranked among the top 300 business schools in the world by QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) British Ranking Agency.
Last year, NUST also managed to into the top 500 universities in the world by QS Ranking. With that, Quaid i Azam University (QAU), LUMS (Lahore University of Management Sciences), UET (University of Engineering and Technology), UOL (University of Lahore) and KU (University of Karachi) from Pakistan have also made to the list of top 1000 universities in the world.
Meanwhile, NUS (National University of Singapore) has been ranked number one in the continent. NUS was followed by University of Hong Kong, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and Tsinghua University, China, that claimed the second and third spot, respectively.
The top ten rankings were dominated by institutions from South Asian countries, Singapore and China particularly. All Pakistani universities, however, have shown improvement as compared to the previous year on the ranking table.
