UAE’s ‘Stem Cell Treatment’ For COVID-19 shows positive results, could be in the market in 3 months

All of them were ‘treated and cured successfully’ and there were no side-effects reported.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has come up with a ‘Stem Cell Treatment’ for COVID-19 patients. Using this method, the patient’s stem cells are extracted, activated, and then turned into a mist to be inhaled to heal the lungs.

It is supposed to have a therapeutic effect by regenerating lung cells and controlling the immune system’s response to the virus. It prevents the body from ‘overreacting’ to the infection and further damaging the cells.

Head of Hematology and Oncology at the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in the UAE Dr. Fatima al-Kaabi said it is still too early to say when the treatment could be brought into the market. However, if all the trials go well, then it would be available within a three month time.

There is no vaccine or specific treatment available for the novel virus. According to the health officials in the United States, it could take 12 to 18 months to develop an effective vaccine.

In a statement, the UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention said the treatment was tested on 73 patients experiencing moderate to severe symptoms. About a quarter out of the said patients were in the ICU.

All of them were ‘treated and cured successfully’ and there were no side-effects reported.

The treatment was given alongside conventional medical intervention. Dr. al-Kaabi said they were hopeful, adding that the results of further trials will be out in a few weeks.

‘’We have seen a favorable outcome’’, she said.
