UN Women initiates National Gender Data Portal to aid in policy making
It will help in better reporting of the international and the national commitment and the policy actions in context to gender equality data.
Gender equality and women’s empowerment is the heart of the United Nations Women Pakistan’s agenda. Aiming to fulfill this mission, the United Nations Women Pakistan is working on a portal for better reporting of the international and national commitment and the policy actions in context to gender equality data.
The National Gender Data Portal initiative will improve data collection and reporting, which will in turn guide organizations towards better policy making for women and girls living in Pakistan.
The portal by The United Nations Women Pakistan will help eliminate discrimination and violence against women. Moreover, better reporting on the country’s international commitment to gender equality will be ensured.
To turn their vision into reality, the United Nations Women Pakistan has also brought the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) on board as a technical partner. Currently, the university is in the process of developing the portal and plans to launch it soon.
Speaking about the portal, the Federal Security Minister of Human Rights, Rabiya Javeri Agha, says:
“Pakistan ranks 151 out of 153 in the latest Gender Gap report developed by the World Economic Forum, which highlights the urgent need to address the challenges using evidence-based interventions.
Thus, the National Gender Data Portal is a great initiative by the NCSW and the UN Women Pakistan. The Ministry of Human Rights fully supports it and we look forward to linking this with the Human Rights Management Information System, in which we include all provinces.”
