The United Kingdom to double its trade with Pakistan after improved security situation

One of these policies is increasing the credit limit for Pakistan to £1 billion by UKEF and doubling investment to $500 million in the next 18 to 24 months.

British High Commissioner Dr Christian Turner said that he aims to double the trade between the United Kingdom (UK) and Pakistan due to the improved security situation in the country.

While speaking at an event in Manchester, Dr Christian called on business leaders to develop deep ties between the two countries and change the perception of Pakistan.

“I want the business community to be part of unleashing the the full, enormous potential of the UK-Pakistan relationship; my ambition is to double the trade between our two countries”, Turner said.

“The community ties in the northwest of England exemplify our unique partnership and we want to challenge perceptions of Pakistan – it’s a country modernising fast and changing for the better”, he added.

Turner shed light upon some policies of the UK government intended to stimulate trade with Pakistan. One of these policies is increasing the credit limit for Pakistan to £1 billion by UKEF and doubling investment to $500 million in the next 18 to 24 months in the clean energy sector.

The British High Commissioner also decided to double the size of the British High Commission trade team and further support economic development and technical expertise in Pakistan.
The bilateral trade between the two countries stands at £3.3 billion in total.

Security situation in Pakistan have improved after terrorist incidents dropped by 80% since 2014. Witnessing the improvement, the UK changed its travel advice for Pakistan in January.
