United States Mission in Pakistan announces expansion of interview waiver eligibility

The United States Mission in Pakistan has just announced the expansion of waiver eligibility for Pakistanis who are getting their B1/B2 tourist and business visas renewed at the U.S. Consulate General in Karachi and the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.

All Pakistani citizens with a B1/B2 visa, which is either valid or expired in the last 48 months, can participate, irrespective of their age. Previously, there was an age limit to it, and citizens who were 45 and older were allowed to participate. In addition to this, the interview waiver eligibility for students and visa applicants of petition-based work who previously had a U.S. visa has also been extended through 2023.

The expansion of interview waiver eligibility is a change aimed to provide better customer service and more efficiently processing the renewals of business visas and tourists for qualified Pakistani citizens. As per U.S. law, eligible visa holders may be required to appear at the embassy or U.S. Consulate General for the purpose of interviews after they are done submitting their applications.

To know if an applicant is eligible for an interview waiver, visit the United States Mission in Pakistan’s website. Moreover, the applicants who are ‘now’ eligible for the interview waiver but were already scheduled for an interview have the option to cancel their appointment through the online platform. They can then start a new application from the dashboard and follow the steps mentioned in detail on the website.
