Earlier all Foreign Military Sales to Pakistan were halted by the Trump administration after accusing the country of non-cooperation. The said aircraft are required by Pakistan Air Force for counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.

Pakistan had earlier reached the bilateral understanding for the purchase of F-16 planes for which the US was supposed to provide the funds from its Foreign Military Financing fund.

The announcement seems to be the outcome of the latest breakthrough in the US-Pakistan relations following PM Imran Khan’s visit to the US.
