Yesterday, Gulalai Ismail had alleged that her father was picked up by unidentified persons while he was at the Peshawar High Court for a case hearing. Gulalai Ismail also expressed her concern regarding the “abduction” of her father.
Today, Professor Ismail, Gulalai’s father, was presented before court in Peshawar after which he was sent to jail on 14-day judicial remand. According to his lawyer, Professor Ismail was arrested under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) 2016. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had requested a physical remand of Gulalai’s father but the court sent him to jail on judicial remand instead.
Moreover, the amnesty international has also asked Pakistani government to withdraw charges against Professor Ismail and release him.
The charges against @Gulalai_Ismail parents must be immediately and unconditionally dropped. Her father, Professor Muhammad Ismail must be released without delay. The relentless persecution of the Ismail family is a flagrant violation of their rights and must come to an end.
