Usman Buzdar: Nawaz Sharif Allotted Over 1,300 Plots As CM Punjab From 1985-90
During his tenure as chief minister (CM) from 1985-90, Nawaz Sharif allotted 1,352 plots worth billions of rupees to various close associates.
These plots were allotted to one senator, 16 assembly members, and their relatives in different Lahore Development Authority( LDA) schemes in the provincial capital.
This was revealed by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Usman Buzdar, in a news conference on Thursday.
Buzdar disclosed that these plots were allotted in violation of rules under discretionary quota.
Giving details, he said 646 plots were distributed in Johar Town, 260 in Sabzazar, 108 in Gujjar Pura, 191 in Tajpura, 32 in Model Town, 37 in Allama Iqbal Town, 31 in Faisal Town, and five other plots were illegally allotted in Gulberg in violation of discretionary quota.
“These plots were meant for widows, orphans, widows of martyrs, journalists, religious scholars, and sportsmen,” Buzdar stressed.
Nevertheless, power discretion was used for political bribes.
The incumbent government has commanded the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) to probe into the illegal allotment of plots in various LDA schemes.
“Indiscriminate action will be taken against unlawful beneficiaries as well as those who had illegally allotted such plots,” Buzdar remarked.
“These plots were assigned in violation of discretionary quota, and Qamaru Zaman Khan played an essential role in the illegal allotment of these plots,” Buzdar added.
Qamaru Zaman was a government employee of the Malaria Control Program, and from there, he was posted as LDA director general by Nawaz Sharif. Then he was appointed as private secretary to PM Nawaz Sharif in 1997.
He was also appointed as political secretary to CM Shehbaz Sharif in 2008.
Buzdar also disclosed that former MPA Raja Ishfaq Sarwar (late) was unlawfully allotted 14 plots. The ACE has been commanded to take action.
“Laws were violated in the past, but the incumbent government will ensure the supremacy of the rule of law and transparency. PTI’s goal is to serve the masses,” Buzdar emphasized.
