Not many renowned names in India are brave enough to speak up for the Pakistani artistes. However, Bollywood playback singer Arijit Singh has proved that nothing can hold him back from speaking the truth.

During a live performance in Abu Dhabi last night, the Tum Hi Ho singer asked the crowd about why the Pakistani songs and singers have been banned in India. Arijit Singh revealed that Atif Aslam and Shafqat Amanat Ali are two of his favourite singers. The Bollywood play singer then went on to sing Atif Aslam’s hit song Pehli Nazar Mein.

“What a solid statement from Arijit Singh regarding Pakistani singers,” a Twitter user wrote as he shared the video from the concert.

The ban on Pakistani artistes in India

Pakistan and India always have had a strained relationship. The tension  between the two countries has been high ever since the Pulwama attack.

In 2019, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) announced a total ban on Pakistani actors and artistes in India. Furthermore, the AICWA also threatened to ban any organisation insisting on working with Pakistani artists.

Last year, T-series removed Atif Aslam’s song, Kinna Sona, from its YouTube channel following a campaign asking to take down Atif’s songs was launched on Twitter. The music label was also forced to apologise for not complying with the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA).
