Video: Imran Khan talks about cricket, his reputation as a lady killer, arrange marriage & much more in this 1984 interview
In an old interview with ‘60 minutes Australia’, the current PM of Pakistan talked about cricket, his reputation as a lady killer, arrange marriage and much more.
Pakistan Prime Minister and former cricket captain Imran Khan was known as much for his looks as his cricketing ability back in his playing days. The 1992 world cup winning captain represented Pakistan in 88 Tests and 175 ODIs in his career which spanned for two decades.
In an old interview with ‘60 minutes Australia’, the current PM of Pakistan talked about cricket, his reputation as a lady killer, arrange marriage and much more. Replying to a question, Khan said that his reputation as a lady killer is totally unjustified.
“I have found it very difficult to live with that image,” he replied.
Imran Khan further added: “I suppose you’d say that one goes out at night, womanises, drinks and all that and when one comes back, one lives as a pure muslim. Well actually, it doesn’t happen like that.”
Sharing his thoughts about his marriage, the 32 year old Imran Khan said that he assumes that he is going to have an arranged marriage.
“It is becoming more of a dilemma each day. The thing is I want to live in Pakistan and to find a girl from the West, who will be willing to live in Pakistan will be difficult. Maybe I can get lucky and do fall in love with someone who wants to live there, but I mean since it hasn’t happened so far, chances are quite slim. That’s why I assume I am going to have an arranged marriage because there is no other way to get married in Pakistan.”
Talking about his cricket, he said that he had these visions that one day, he would suddenly become another Bradman.
“When one grows up in very protected environment like Aitchison and Zaman Park, which is where I was for the first 17 years of my life. I had a very sheltered view and I thought, since I was better than boys of my own age, it was only natural that once I grew up I would be better than anyone else.
Talking about his Pathan background, he said: “Pathans have been known to be the only race in the subcontinent that has never been conquered, the British never conquered them.”
