Video: Kumar Sangakara Heaps Big Praise on Babar Azam, says he has ‘surpassed him as a player’

He ranked Babar Azam among the likes of Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Joe Root. 



Former Sri Lankan cricket team captain Kumar Sangakara has heaped big praise on Pakistan’s Babar Azam. Talking to Cricket Pakistan, Kumar Sangakara said that the Pakistani batsman has surpassed him as a player, in many ways, in international cricket. 

“I think Babar Azam has already surpassed me in many ways. His aim should be to become Babar Azam, The best Babar Azam possible.”

He ranked Babar Azam among the likes of Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Joe Root. 

Kumar Sangakara further said that Babar Azam is a special player, who adapts to every format very easily. 

Talking about his time with the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in Lahore, the 42-year-old was all praise for the hospitality of the Pakistani people. 

“We have had a great time [in Pakistan]. The hospitality has been outstanding. That is what I have always remembered. To be able to come back here and experience that again, to be able to play great cricket, to feel safe and then also to go around Lahore, everyone has been so nice to us. They have been so welcoming and passionate about the sport. I think it has been a great experience,” he said.

Kumar Sangakara hoped that the MCC’s tour will be helpful in bringing top international teams to Pakistan. Moreover, he named Pakistani bowlers including Wasim Akram,  Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed among the best fast bowlers he faced.
