[VIDEO] ‘The New JF-17 Aircraft Has Features of China’s Top Fighter Jet’
These new additions to the JF-17 can give pilots more situational awareness, allowing them to concentrate more on combat than flying the jet.
According to experts, the new version of the JF-17 fighter jet includes features and technology matching China’s top J-20 fighter jet. The new aircraft made its maiden flight in December.
The warplane, developed by both China and Pakistan, has major upgrades in electronic devices, which will increase its efficiency in combat.
Having the serial number ‘3000’, the first JF-17 Block 3 prototype was taken to the skies for the first time in mid-December in Chengdu, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province, as reported by Aerospace Knowledge magazine.
The aircraft has many commercial off-the-shelf technologies from the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China.
These technologies include a new and bigger holographic wide-angle display and integrated cockpit display similar to the one used in China’s J-20, along with an advanced infrared missile approach warning system used by J-16, J-10C, and J-20 fighter jets.
The chief editor of Aerospace Knowledge magazine Wang Ya’nan told a news outlet that JF-17’s performance and design have often been seen in the past but with the advanced electronic devices, it has improved significantly.
“China has made a large number of achievements in the development of the likes of the J-10 and J-20, resulting in many mature technologies and equipment… If they can be used on the JF-17, the pilot could enjoy a significant efficiency increase in flying, which will also boost its combat efficiency,” Wang said.
These new additions to the JF-17 can give pilots more situational awareness, allowing them to concentrate more on combat than flying the jet. Another advantage of using off-the-shelf technologies is that they are cost-efficient.
This prototype of the JF-17 Block 3 did not seem to have a radar, although the JF-17 Block 3 is expected to be equipped with an advanced electronically scanned array radar system.
This fighter jet is the first upgraded version of the JF017, and It is expected to be used in Pakistan Air Force service according to Aerospace Knowledge.
