Watch: Life-size statue of Ertuğrul setup in Lahore!
The fever continues!
Since the very first episode aired on the national television, the admiration for the Turkish series ‘Diriliş: Ertuğrul’ has spread across Pakistan like wildfire. The Turkish historical fiction series is set in the pre-Ottoman era and revolves around the life of a group of Turkic Nomads.
Ertuğrul, the protagonist of the series, is the son of Suleyman Shah, the father of Osman I. Osman was the leader of the Kayi tribe of Oghuz Turks and most importantly the founder of the Ottoman dynasty. Hence, Ertuğrul is being honored as a Muslim hero by Pakistanis.
Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan also got caught in the fever of the hit series and directed the installation of Ertuğrul’s statue in the provincial capital of Punjab. The statue stands tall in Lahore’s Maraghzar Colony, near Thokar Niaz Baig, as reported by Independent Urdu.

The statue was brought in from Toba Tek Singh district’s Kamalia city. The report also predicts that similar statues, made of fiber and iron, would be installed in other parts of Maraghzar Colony soon.
The media outlet also quotes the secretary-general of Maraghzar Colony in the report, stating that they are planning to name the square after Ertuğrul.
