“We’ll see who goes to play the IPL over PSL”: Ramiz Raja wants THIS change in PSL

The Pakistan Super League (PSL), without a shadow of doubt, has been a great success. It hasn’t just provided Pakistan cricket with young talent but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also generated a huge revenue from it.

Now, Chairman PCB Ramiz Raja wants to make it even more successful. In an interview, the Chairman PCB revealed his plan of moving from the players’ draft system to auction, just like the Indian Premier League.

“We need to create new properties to be financially independent. We have nothing for now but the PSL and ICC funds. There’s an argument over the model from next year; I want to switch it to an auction model from next year,” he said.

The former cricketer went on to add that he will discuss the players’ auction idea with the franchise owners. According to him, its a game of money, once PCB is more financially independent, Pakistan’s respect will rise.

“If we take the PSL to auction model, increase the purse, then I’ll put it in the IPL bracket. And then we’ll see who goes to play the IPL over the PSL,” he added.

Ramiz Raja once again said that they will host the upcoming PSL’s edition in more than just two cities. Chairman added that the plan is to have PSL on a home and away basis.

The former cricketer stated that top talent in the world will be attracted to play in the PSL when it moves from draft system to auction. “I’ve spoken to a couple of the franchise owners; they’re quite happy to experiment with this. I’ll talk to the others, too. It’s in the embryonic stages, but it’s top of my wish list.”

Raja also wants Pakistan to be the first Asian country to host a women’s T20 league. He also defended Pakistan’s women team performance during the ongoing World Cup, where they have lost all of their games.
