What other provinces learn from Gilgit-Baltistan’s fight against COVID-19

More than 70 percent of people in Gilgit-Baltistan have recovered from the coronavirus.

The number of people recovering from the coronavirus in Gilgit-Baltistan has recently outpaced the number of new cases. As of May 8, the total number of people who have recovered are greater than the number of active cases.

More than 70 percent of people in the province have recovered from the coronavirus.

Steps taken by the GB government

Speaking to a media outlet, the CM of Gilgit-Baltistan, Hafiz Hafeez ur Rehman highlighted the steps and policies which have helped the province in containing the virus.

“We obtained the data of people who came back from Taftan when the first COVID-19 case was reported in the province. After that, we tracked down all those 1500 people and tested them,” the CM said.

Rehman added, “The provincial government has established quarantine centers in more than 40 hospitals. Moreover, 1200 hotel rooms were converted into quarantine centers along with basic facilities like internet, TV, etc.”

While discussing the social distancing orders and preventive measures, the CM said, “the government has decided to distribute 500, 000 face masks in the province. Moreover, People violating the order by not wearing masks when outdoors will be fined up to PKR 100.”
