Dr Farough Naseem, Minister for Justice and Law, has announced this Friday the introduction of Whistleblower Protection Bill. Through this bill, whistleblowers will get 20% of the recovered amount and assets from the corrupt people.
He further added that the names of the whistleblowers will be kept anonymous to assure protection.
“This law will invite countrymen to identify the corrupt, and whistleblowers will get 20 per cent of the ill-gotten money and assets recovered from such people. The names of whistleblowers will be kept a secret.” – Dr Farough said while addressing the media on the subject.
He said that the draft bill is ready and will be presented to the parliament and the legislature very soon. Speaking on protecting the identity of the whistleblowers, Dr Farough said that it is being done to ensure the security of the people who will expose the corruption of the relevant authorities.
It is imperative to mention that a similar bill was previously presented in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assembly as well, during the previous tenure of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) government in the province i.e, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Whistleblower Protection and Vigilance Commission Act, 2016.
Minister added that an independent and impartial commission would be set up to probe in the complaints made pertaining to corruption and the Chairman of the commission will be chosen through a proper procedure.
Naseem also invited other political parties and said that it is necessary they are all on the same page when it comes to curbing down corruption. The commission will screen the complaints and forward them to NAB (National Accountability Bureau), SECP (Securities and Exchange Commission Pakistan) and FIA (Federal Investigation Agency).
