Who is first lady’s alleged best friend Farah Khan and why is she in the news?

Farah Khan's name first appeared in the media when news of Prime Minister Imran Khan's third marriage started coming in January 2018.

Recently, Farah Khan, the first lady’s closest friend, has been mentioned in Pakistan’s politics. Opposition parties and key leaders, including Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Maryam Nawaz, have accused Farah Khan of corruption.
Last week, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that he was aware that a character assassination campaign would be launched in the coming days about him and especially about his wife’s friend Farah Khan.
Farah Khan’s name first appeared in the media when news of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s third marriage started coming in January 2018. Local media in Pakistan reported that PTI Chairman Imran Khan got married to Bushra Bibi on the 1st of January in the DHA area of Lahore. This brief marriage ceremony was held at the house of Farah Khan, a friend of Bushra Bibi.
Initially, the PTI leadership called the news a hoax. However, a month later, the PTI released some pictures. Farah Khan was seen standing behind the newlyweds in one such wedding photo.

At that time, she was introduced as a close friend of Bushra Bibi. However, Farah Khan’s name began to appear regularly in the Pakistani media in August 2018 after the formation of the PTI government in Pakistan.

Farah Khan did not occupy any public post in Imran Khan’s party or government. However, she was known to wield significant influence given her closeness with Bushra Bibi, who was believed to have pulled many a string in the Imran Khan government. Farah Khan’s original name is Farah Shahzadi. She was believed to be the “front-woman” of Usman Buzdar, the former chief minister of Punjab.
Farah Khan is the wife of Ahsan Jamil Gujjar, a businessman. The couple’s names first surfaced in the first month of the PTI government when Ahsan Jamil Gujjar was accused of replacing then-DPO Pakpattan Rizwan Gondal.
According to a report submitted in October 2018 by Mehr Khaliq Dadlak, Chief of National Counter Terrorism Authority (NCTA) in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, “Police stopped Khawar Manika family at a check post in Pakpattan on the night between the 23rd and the 24th of August. He had a heated argument with the Police. The Chief Minister’s Office issued orders to replace DP Pakpattan Rizwan Gondal on the same night.
The then Chief Justice Saqib Nisar took notice of the incident, and Farah Khan’s husband Ahsan Jamil Gujjar sought an unconditional apology from the court and vowed that he would not interfere in future government affairs.
Ahsan Jamil also told the Supreme Court that he was a close friend of Manika’s family and the breadwinner of Khawar Manika’s children.
After the Pakpattan incident, Ahsan Jamil Gujjar again came into the news. When the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) launched an investigation against Gujranwala Mongolia Park Housing Scheme in April 2019, notices were also issued to its alleged shareholder Ahsan Jamil Gujjar. The investigation did not go ahead, but his wife, Farah Khan, has been in the news ever since.
On the 3rd of April, Farah fled the country amid the political crisis on a plane with a handbag reportedly costing $90,000. The Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz recently accused Farah of being involved in corruption.
