Why to Never Put All Your Eggs in the Same Basket – A real-life experience of Dr. Muhammad Affan Qaiser
Dr. Affan Qaiser is a renowned Gastroenterologist and Transplant Hepatologist of Pakistan
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference. – Robert Frost
We live in a society where this idea is prevalent; the son of a doctor should grow up to be a doctor, and the son of a journalist must inherit the profession and business of his father.
Why should a doctor not pursue journalism if he finds his heart captivated by journalism? Why can’t he write Urdu poetry, teach current affairs and read literature from Allama Iqbal?
These disruptive questions and stereotypes of our society led Dr. Affan Qaiser to do what was never thought of, applied, and done before in Pakistan – a road never traveled before in Pakistan.
“During my practice as a Resident Hepatologist in Shifa International Hospital, I joined Radio Pakistan. That was one of my few first steps that scaled my career in Medical Journalism. However, I received backlash from a few negatives in society. But I am glad I made the right decision.”
Dr. Affan Qaiser is a renowned Gastroenterologist and Transplant Hepatologist of Pakistan who is currently serving as a Senior Consultant and Assistant Professor of Transplant Hepatology and Gastroenterology at Gambat – Pakistan’s biggest Liver Transplant Program.
He has successfully contributed to 400 liver transplants, making him the first-ever and youngest qualified face of Transplant Hepatology from South Punjab.
Along with his wife, Dr. Nazish Affan, he is also serving as the brand ambassador of the Association of Pakistani Physicians and Surgeons (APPS) on the international level.
“When I started working as a journalist, I found a gap in our media practices that direly needed to be bridged. I believe every field must have their independent journalism to disseminate authentic knowledge, an expert panel who wholly understand their profession, its associated concerns, issues, and core values – educating the masses effectively.”
This idea from a young doctor connected well with the ongoing media practices and opened up a new realm of authentic real-time medical news.
The journey that started with self-doubt and shackling self-esteem transformed Dr. Affan Qaiser into one of the biggest names in Medical Journalism, awarding him the reputation as the most popular medical influencer and blogger in Pakistan with a following in millions.
His columns and expert opinion articles about medical awareness and current affairs have changed the lives of thousands of medical students and health care personnel. Joining Pakistani media as a medical influencer instilled in him a proficient writer. Dr. Affan Qaiser has also authored the five most consulted medical books for medical studies in Pakistan.
However, his journey didn’t stop there. Today, he connects with his audience of millions through social media, making him the most followed medical professional from Pakistan.
He is honored to have accomplished many elite-level interviews, including the wife of ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan, Dr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, State ministers Mr.Asad Umer and Dr.Faisal Sultan, and renowned liver transplant surgeon Dr. Subash Gupta from India.
He also represents as Senior Anchorperson and analyst lead in renowned digital media house of Pakistan. He has been connected with Daily Express as the executive panel writer for more than eight years now.
“If you only do what you can do now, you will never be able to achieve the highest level of suit and fulfill what destiny awaits you.” Dr. Affan Qaiser
