Woman travelling via train raped by ticket checkers and security incharge
According to media reports, a woman travelling on a Karachi-bound moving train was gang-raped by the train staff. The shocking incident occurred near Rohri station and has left citizens rethinking their safety in public transport systems.
Details of the Incident
The woman was travelling on Bahauddin Zakariya Express. The train left for Karachi from Multan on the 27th of May. It reached the Rohri railway station on the 28th of May. According to sources, two ticket checkers and security in-charge gang-raped the woman travelling on the train.
Police Involvement in the Matter
The police registered a case of sexual assault on the woman against the train staff on Monday. The rape survivor recorded her statement with the police officials.
After listening to her account, the police sought details of the incident from the DS Multan and DS Karachi. Meanwhile, SP Railways, Karachi Division, Kausar Abbas was appointed the inquiry officer of the case.
During the investigation, the police officials inquired about the train staff from the railway administration. The administration claimed that the Bahauddin Zakariya Express operates under the administration of a private company and the train staff is also private, eliminating their responsibility for the incident.
With little information received from the railway administration, the police set on a search for the culprits. Teams were formed to trace leads. According to recent media reports, police officials have successfully arrested one of the rapists. They will now extract information from the captured rapist to reach the other two.
The incident has left citizens, especially women and children, feeling unsafe when travelling on public transport. Many are hopeful that the shocking gang rape occurrence will attract the attention of relevant authorities. People expect the government to take corrective measures to ensure the safety of all and punish culprits greatly so no other individual follows in their footsteps.
