‘Wow, Grape’ meme to be auctioned off as an NFT
The video became a classic on TikTok with over 63 million views.
In an exciting new development, the ‘Wow, Grape’ meme is being auctioned off as an NFT or non-fungible token. It will be up for grabs on 30th September, at the digital art marketplace, Foundation.
A percentage of the sale will also be donated to the victims of recent catastrophic floods in Pakistan through the assistance of a charity organization.
Pakistan’s viral meme to be auctioned off as an NFT
The viral meme started from an old YouTube video, which was of an event at a Pakistani school in Saudi Arabia.
Social media misinterpreted the school’s then-principal Sehar Kamran’s words ‘wow great’ as ‘wow, grape,’ which made for great meme material. Clips from the video have had a huge impact on social media, as the sensational meme was converted into templates for platforms. Ever since then, they have been used as text slang, image meme formats, and GIFs.
The video became a classic on TikTok with over 63 million views. The meme’s popularity followed posts by social media influencers and celebrities across the world.
The ‘Wow, Grape’ NFT auction will be held with Sehar Kamran’s permission and in partnership with the Swedish-Pakistani software house, Maqsoft.
What is an NFT?
An NFT is a digital asset, which represents intangible digital content, like a video or an image. Since NFT owners are recorded on a ledger called the ‘blockchain,’ NFTs can be traded as substitutes for the digital assets they represent. The sale of the viral NFT could also inspire local NFT creators to launch their non-fungible tokens in the global marketplace.
